CarBibles: The Classic Nine Motorwerks Porsche 911 Turbo Restomod Is Small Wheel, Big Tire Heaven

C9 Porsche 911 RS Turbo concept

I love a beautifully simple restomod like this.

Amongst a never-ending sea of overdone Porsche projects, Classic Nine Motorwerks figured out a way to make its Porsche 930 restomod stand out with simplicity and classic styling.

This is a generally unassuming 930 restoration, but it ups the car’s motorsports credentials in some crafty ways. The 15″ wheels are center-locking and measure in at a massive 10.5 inches wide in the back and 8.5 inches up front, retaining that classic small-wheel, big-tire aesthetic.

The 3.0-liter turbocharged flat-six has been bumped up to 420 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque — this is probably terrifying to experience while strapped into something with a curb weight of 2,340 pounds, which is just a couple of pounds more than my Mazda 2. The suspension retains its goofy torsion bar-type design but features custom-valved Koni adjustable dampers, bigger sway bars, and Porsche 930 brakes.

There’s also a smattering of custom plush leather amenities inside, but honestly, I don’t care. I wouldn’t mind if it were just bare metal with a roll bar and a single Recaro fixed-back racing bucket. This thing is gorgeous on the outside and really looks the part as a late ’70s/early ’80s Porsche hot rod or circuit racer.

As a cherry on top, I also love the basic no-frills exhaust pipe. It looks like something that’d be thrown on an IMSA racecar back in the day, and therefore possesses beautiful throwback performance-minded simplicity. You can tell this company loves vintage motorsports, too, check out this quick spec sheet:
