As the Porsche brand has grown with the development of more sophisticated and technically advanced cars, many enthusiasts have been seduced by the character and sole of the classic Porsches. Porsche 356’s have consistently been in high demand by enthusiasts that feel the 356 celebrates the hand crafted art of design and construction which generated Porsche’s world wide notoriety. Twenty years ago, most early 911’s were appreciated by few enthusiasts and generally over shadowed by the wide body, turbo era of the late 70’s and early 80’s.

Aftermarket performance parts and accessories for the classic Porsches are now plentiful and has provided owners with almost endless opportunities to personalize their cars. As a result, many enthusiasts have turned to Porsche’s racing past as the genesis for inspiration for their outlaw Porsche 911. Beginning in the late 1960’s and lasting through the early 70’s, Porsche’s “Sports Purpose Program” offered customers the latest specialty parts and competition upgrades so owners could maximize their cars potential in rallies and road races throughout Europe and the US. Upgrades included flared fenders, wider wheels, engine performance upgrades, close ratio transmission gear sets, touring/competition seats and interior roll bars. It was this program that allowed many outlaw Porsche racers to upgrade their cars to the latest specification offered by the factory.
Over the past 20+ years, select west coast builders and fabricators have become renowned for their artisan work on Porsche 356’s creating cars described as “outlaw” for their modifications that replicate aesthetic and performance features of Porsche’s early race cars. Originally condoned by Porsche purists that only respected factory originality it is hard to dismiss the creativity, craft and heritage connection these cars possess. As interest in the classic Porsche market has grown, this same artisan approach has influenced many builders to create outlaw Porsche 911’s modified with features and equipment commonly offered through Porsche’s Sports Purpose Program of the late 60’s and early 70’s.
Classic 9’s philosophy is an outlaw Porsche 911 often draws influence from Porsche’s production and racing history and interprets these influences into a car that the factory could have but, perhaps, never produced. An outlaw Porsche 911 may have equipment and/or details the factory never explicitly offered for that particular car but can be found in the heritage of their past and current cars. Simply put, an outlaw Porsche 911 forgoes production originality for design creativity and inspiration of what “could have been”!
Classic 9’s philosophy of successful outlaw Porsche 911 is a “heritage inspired” 911 integrating modifications and components that subtlety create a car Porsche could have made. Some of the modifications and components we incorporate are:
Body
Wheels & Tires
Engine & Transmission
Interior
While these modifications and components may have a singular interest for some as an outlaw Porsche 911, it is the story or “concept” of Classic 9’s RS turbo that truly provides meaning to the individual parts as a cohesive composition!
