Many enthusiasts consider the 1973 911RS the ultimate lightweight 911 and analog driving experience. It was the first 911 to be fitted with a rear spoiler and a performance DNA directly linked to Porsche’s racing experience. The RS inspired a series of dedicated RSR race cars that became a legendary success.
The 1973 911 2.8L RSR was the first race car in the RSR lineage and won the 24 Hours of Daytona outright in 1973. The 2.8 RSR’s were equipped with 9” flared fenders in the front and 11” flares in the rear wrapping deep dish 9×15 & 11×15 fuchs wheels. The ubiquitous duck tail spoiler was retained for the 2.8 RSR’s as was the RS front spoiler albeit a bit wider to blend with the 9” front flares. Engine displacement was increased to 2.8L utilizing high butterfly mechanical fuel injection.
